Hello Everyone,

I came accross the poem at the bottom and thought that I would help spread the word.

If anyone is looking for that perfect pet for a holiday gift, please make sure you remind them to visit the local shelters first. Many mixed breeds and purebred dogs are there just begging to find homes. If you’ve seen this poem, please pass it on to a friend that maybe hasn’t!

In honor of the king of all turkey eating days, Thanksgiving, use the coupon code, “eat turkey” and you will receive 14% off of your entire purchase! Just make sure you order before midnight November 30, 2009.  Start all your holiday shopping with us at DogCandlesAndMore.com featuring over 200 images of over 100 breeds of dogs that can be made into candles, ornaments, magnets and mugs.  The candles have your choice of 8 fragrances, in 3 different sizes.  And if you are looking for that one of a kind gift, the candles, magnets and ornaments can be created with your photo of your dog, cat, or bird.  You name it and we can put it on a great gift for that someone special.

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY by Janine Allen

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.

I would promise to always be by her side.

I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Hiking with your dog!

Hello All,

Can you believe that it’s November already? I know the leaves have almost all fallen here in Ohio, but it is sure a good time to take a fall walk and enjoy the beauty before winter hits! This is my favorite time of year… did I hear the word walk… you wait here while I get my leash!

I thought I’d pass on some hiking tips for my four legged friends.

1. Try not to use the extending types of leashes in the park. You might spend more time untangling your pooch if he gets too far ahead of you than actually walking!

2. If you dog responds well to commands, (what one doesn’t!?!) you might want to let him off leash. This is a great way for him to do some exploring on his own, just make sure the park / area you are at allows unleashed pups!

3. Remember, not everyone is a dog lover (yes, hard to believe) so make sure you have your leash ready if you see someone on the trail.

4. Always make sure your dog has I.D. tags on him! Leashed or un-leashed, it's always better to play it safe and wear those I.D. tags!

5. You never know what you will encounter on a hike, make sure your dogs shots are up to date!

6. It’s a great way to start training your dog if you give him treats whenever you pass by others. This way your pooch will learn to come to you when he sees others.

7. Even in the woods, you still must clean up after your dog! Please!

8. Stay hydrated! Bring water for two! Don’t like your pooch drink from puddles… Yuck!

9. Lastly, once your walk is complete, give your dog a good look over. Make sure you check for ticks and other bugs. Be thorough! When in doubt regarding a bite, always check with your vet!

Did everyone have fun this Halloween? Does anyone have a photo to share of their dog dressed up for Halloween? Please send them to me! I’d love to see them! Send them to: photos@dogcandlesandmore.com

10 ways to know you are spoiling your dog!

Hello all,

What a beautiful week it has been here in Northeast Ohio. Warm sunny days followed by cool nights. Great for busy days and sleeping at night!

This month, when I was looking at all of the things that happened in September, I couldn’t believe the number of TV Premier Anniversary’s there were. Some of the more popular shows were:

25th Anniversary of “The Cosby Show”

40th Anniversary of “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?” Isn't he one of the coolest dogs ever?

45th Anniversary of “The Munster’s” and “Flipper”

55th Anniversary of “The Tonight Show”

And can you believe it, it is the 60th Anniversary of “The Lone Ranger”

Those are some great shows; I especially like Scooby and Flipper! Pass that popcorn!

Some other interesting dates in September are:

13th – Grandparents Day
20th – Women’s Friendship Day
26th – Family Health and Fitness Day USA - why not take you dog for a walk?
28th – Family Day – A Day to eat dinner with the children. Shouldn't you do that every day?

Wow, a lot of family activities, I like that too! Instead of a joke this month, I thought that I would have you picture David Letterman and introduce the

Top Ten Signs You Spoil Your Dog:

10. You think begging for table scraps is beneath him, so you let your dog eat at the table with you.
9. You take him to the supermarket and let him pick out his own dog food.
8. Your husband comes home from work, looks at the stew on the stove and asks: "Is this people food or dog food?"
7. You bought matching His & Hers place mats for your dog and yourself.
6. At dinner parties you always have to double-check the butter for visible lick marks, before putting it on the table.
5. Your dog gets to vote on where to spend the next family vacation.
4. You don't care if you or your spouse are comfortable at night, as long as Fido has enough room on the bed.
3. You complain about the rising costs of groceries, but you don't think twice about spending a fortune on doggie treats.
2. Your dog always gets the best spot on the couch and sometimes he even gets to hold the remote.

and now with a drum roll.......

1. He has his own e-mail address.

#4 is true in my house, I usually get the first pick of the bed, since I’m there first! And Gosh, so is #1… is something wrong with that?? He-he

If your dog has you spoiling them, send us pictures of them showing off one of the ten above and we will post them out to the dog park. Also, let us know which of the ten you are guilty of.
