Custom Photo Dachshund Gifts

The Dachshund dog breed was originally developed for the flushing out of burrowing animals like badgers. In fact Dachs means badgers and Hund means hound. They are a loud barker and their barking can become a problem without proper training.

When they are left alone, they will often whine until someone joins them. If after some time, no one comes to see what is up, they will often become destructive and chew things in the house. My Dachshund, Hansi, would chew the molding around doors, tear at drapery and once even pulled the ceramic toilet paper holder out of the wall. They are very strong for their size as well.

Many Dachshunds do not like people that they do not know and will use their loud bark to intimidate. And with children, if an unfamiliar child moves to quickly they may snap at them. Additionally, children must be careful around Dachshunds due to issues that they may have with the backs due to being so elongated. Back issues are also aggravated due to being overweight, excessive jumping, or rough handling.

If you have a standard color Dachshund such as a red or black, or even a long haired or wirehaired version, you may find gifts that have good pictures of your Dachshund. But if you have a different color variety such as a dappled where your Dachshund has spots, or a piebald where your Dachshund has various shades of brown over a white background, or you have multi colored Dachshund such as a black and tan, you may not be able to find gifts that look like your dog. For this you may need to find someone that creates unique photo items like candles, ornaments and magnets that feature an actual photo of your one of a kind dog.

Dachshund Gifts and information

The name dachshund is a German word and comes from the original purpose of the breed. Dachs means badger, and Hund is dog and they were developed to go into burrows of badgers and flush them out.

They are an elongated dog breed with short legs and are a member of the hound family. They have muscular bodies with paddle like feet to make digging a breeze. The also have elongated snout with a large nose area to absorb scents.

The two recognized standards for dachshunds are Standard (15 to 28lbs) and Miniature (Under 11 lbs), but there is also a standard called a Kaninchen (which means rabbit) (8-10 lbs). There are also three coat varieties; smooth coat (short hair), long hair, and wire hair and all of them come in a wide variety of colors.

Dachshunds can be playful yet stubborn. They love to chase things. I can attest to both traits from my childhood dog Hansi. I would spend most of my summer fishing in a small lake by my parents cabin. Hansi would chase the frogs, birds and whatever was attached to the end of my fishing line, whether that was a fishing float or a hook and worm. As you can imagine, I caught a dog “fish” a number of times, but he never would stop chasing it. As far as the stubborn, he didn’t like to be left alone at home. One time we had to go out so we put him in our basement. He was so mad at us that he managed to pull the rug out from underneath a grand piano.

Dachshunds are very loyal dogs and are also very popular in the United States and in 2008, they ranked 7th in popularity in AKC registrations.

There are many dachshund gifts available from coffee mugs to magnets and ornaments to candles that feature photo quality images. If you have a dachshund or know someone that has a dachshund, they are sure to enjoy a gift featuring images of their dog breed or even their dog.
